Protesters Sue for Speech Spot
The group World Can't Wait is planning a protest called "World Can't Wait - Drive Out the Bush Regime". I encourage everyone to take part in this. We need to protest the policies of Bush and the Congress. We need to let our government know that we will ALL stand up. The protestors were told that they could protest at the reflecting pool in Washington DC. They have had this opportunity taken away. The protestors wanted to protest there, as a place close to the state of the union address on this Tuesday night. They are being moved away from the reflecting pool further away from the Capitol in the mall in DC. They are being restricted to the gravel walk ways in the mall. This is an attempt to move the protestors further from the event they are protesting. Effectively searching to limit the impact of the protestors. They don't want the protests in DC of the 60's. This is limiting the 1st amendment because protesting requires the Government to provide a meaningful and useful place to assemble. This is the government limiting the freedom of speech by taking away a reasonable place of protest to keep us off the front pages of news papers. Stand Up!! This means we have to be louder and more persistent. Understand your rights. We have the right to tell the government our opinion. Lets not forget the first amendment:
Article [I.]: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
